Best places to visit on the US East Coast?

Thinking about heading on an East Coast road trip this summer with friends. Probably starting in Connecticut or New York, then driving down to Florida, stopping off in places along the way. Anyone done this before or know the best places to visit on route? We're all in our late 20's. We have a little over two weeks to do it so we'd like to skip the places there ain't much happening in... thanks guys!
